Hearing loss a risk factor for dementia: the importance of its rehabilitation

Abstract

We are facing a public health problem in which our life expectancy has increased (we are living longer and longer) and the probability of presenting a significant degree of hearing loss that requires hearing rehabilitation increases, but only a small proportion of the population receives hearing rehabilitation. This implies an increased risk up to 5 times more of developing dementia in adulthood if it is not addressed and treated properly.
