Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss and its relationship with COVID-19

Abstract
Sudden sensorineural hearing loss is a pathology that otorhinolaryngologists and otologists treat with not so high frequency, it represents an emergency that requires rapid and adequate management, in order to improve the hearing prognosis in these patients. It has an incidence of less than 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants per year (1). The classic presentation triad responds to the “rule of 3”, which is a hearing loss in less than three days, with a loss of at least 30 dB in more than three consecutive frequencies. I want to make a call for attention . I consider it is important that not only otorhinolaryngologists and health professionals know about this relationship between the SARS-CoV-2 virus with sudden sensorineural hearing loss, but the entire Colombian community to be alert tothe pressenceof this symptom and, in case they present a hearing loss, they should consult immediately. With this, we would be able to raise awareness about this atypical and nonspecific presentation of the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which will allow us to detect, diagnose and treat it as soon as posible. It is known that the prognosis varies greatly depending on how long after the onset of symptoms corticosteroid treatment is started.
