Resumen

Introducción: El vértigo posicional paroxístico benigno (VPPB) se define como un episodio de sensación ilusoria de movimiento rotatorio que se presenta con los cambios de posición de la cabeza en relación con la gravedad (1-3); se presenta en crisis breves (con una duración menor de 60 segundos) y se acompaña de nistagmo al realizar la maniobra diagnóstica; el nistagmo presenta una latencia corta y se fatiga con la repetición de la maniobra (4). (5). El diagnóstico del VPPB se apoya inicialmente en datos del interrogatorio y posteriormente en las características del nistagmo que se presenta con las maniobras diagnósticas; el tratamiento del VPPB se efectúa con maniobras de reposicionamiento vestibular, así como con los ejercicios de reeducación vestibular de Brand y Daroff (2, 9).
