Abstract

Rhinosinusitis is the inflammation of the mucosa that lines the nose and one or more paranasal sinuses (1), and depending on its duration it can be classified as acute or chronic rhinosinusitis (2). Acute rhinosinusitis is usually the result of a common viral cold and in most cases, it is a self-limiting disease; Chronic rhinosinusitis is a multifactorial disease resulting from a dysfunctional interaction between environmental and individual factors (1). The symptoms caused by rhinosinusitis in general can markedly alter the quality of life of patients and their caregivers, and can even lead to major complications that put the patients’ lives at risk (1-3).
