The journal Acta de Otorrinolaringología & Cirugía de Cabeza y Cuello publishes corrections or retractions following the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) https://publicationethics.org/guidance version 2019. Wherein a retraction is a means to correct the literature and alert readers to articles that have erroneous or unreliable content or data that may be the result of honest error, naive mistakes, or research misconduct.

Retractions may be used to alert readers to cases involving redundant publication, plagiarism, peer review manipulation, unauthorized reuse of material or data, copyright infringement or other legal issue (e.g., defamation, privacy, illegality), unethical research, and/or failure to disclose an important competing interest that would have unduly influenced interpretations or recommendations. And is willing to publish corrections and clarifications, if necessary, upon presentation of the following facts:

  • Plagiarism is established.
  • Findings have been previously published elsewhere without attribution to the prior sources or disclosure to the publisher, permission to republish, or justification (i.e., cases of redundant publication)
  • Contains material or data without permission to use.
  • Copyright has been infringed or there is some other serious legal issue such as (defamation, privacy, etc.)
  • Reports unethical research
  • It has been published solely on a peer review process that was manipulated.
  • The authors did not report a significant competing interest or conflict of interest that would have unduly affected the interpretations of the paper.

If a correction is necessary, the journal should follow these minimum standards:

Publish a notice of correction as soon as possible detailing the changes from the original publication and citing it; the correction should appear on an electronic page that is included in an electronic index to ensure proper indexing.

Publish a new version of the article with details of the changes from the original version and the date(s) when the changes were made.

Archive all previous versions of the article. This archive can be directly accessible to readers or can be made available to the reader upon request.

Earlier electronic versions should prominently note that more recent versions of the article exist.

The citation should be to the most recent version.

The journal Acta de Otorrinolaringología & Cirugía de Cabeza y Cuello accepts comments and opinions that disagree with the published material; as well as retractions that are argued by the authors and undertakes to correct typographical or other errors that may have been made when publishing an article.
